How many times have you been faced with a decision to make and all of a sudden you get this feeling of instinctively knowing what you must do? Something inside you is telling you the difference between what you should do and what you are meant to do. Many people interpret this as a hunch, a gut feeling or having an inkling.

It’s actually called your intuition.

The latin meaning of intuition is ‘in to you’. Makes sense doesn’t it. What a wonderful resource you each have at your fingertips and it can be utilized without formal training. All you need to do is become aware of this amazing power within you and start using it.

Intuitive messages come in a range of ways such as hearing actual words, visualizing a clear and distinct picture, in dream format, a deep inner knowing or a quiet, subtle nudge. It’s important that you become familiar with how your inner self communicates with you and how this message will bring with it a sense of calm confidence.

Here’s some tips to help you get in touch with your own intuition.

Practice

Take a few minutes each day to experience inner silence. Calm your mind and clear your thoughts so that the information from your soul can surface.

Be Open to This Power

Get past the ego that thinks you have everything figured out and be open to new possibilities. Your true path may not be the one that you are currently working on.

Get Creative

Creativity provides a forum for expression and a great venue for helping your intuition get past all the day to day stuff in life.

Ask Yourself Some Questions

When you ask yourself, ‘What’s the next step?”, you will instinctively know what you need to do. This is the time when you must begin to learn to trust yourself.

Remember, intuition is not something you can force, it simply must be allowed to surface. Give it time to work on challenges you may face, be open to the possibilities and you will be rewarded with an instant awareness and perhaps an “Aha” or two.

Intuition is never attached to results. There’s no rush, no confusion. Just a feeling of empowerment. Your own intuition will support your personal growth and help you through lifes transitions. Begin by putting it to work in small ways and eventually your sixth sense will enhance your life like your other five senses are able to do.

Let me challenge you to put yourself out there for the next twenty-four hours and make a list of all the times you have listened to your own intuition. Some of you may find that it speaks to you many times and others not at all.

That’s ok.

Sometimes it takes time and commitment to develop this skill but I guarantee you will find a huge difference in your life once you begin trusting this wonderful power within you.

Does your dog seem to spend an infinite amount of time licking himself? Why is he doing it? And how do you, as a dog owner, correct that annoying licking habit? Here are five of the most common reasons why your dog might be incessantly licking himself and the solutions to correcting the habit.

1. Your dog might have developed an unrelenting licking habit because he needs a bath.

If your dog spends alot of time outside, romping through the woods, tramping in the mud, rolling in the grass or wading in the nearest stream or pond, he is probably dirty. So, your dog may be constantly licking himself because the dirt is irritating him! Plus, all that outdoor activity may have gotten him infested with ticks, fleas, mites, or lice. Your dog’s incessant licking may be an attempt to rid himself of those nasty varmints!

Give him a bath with a veterinarian-approved flea and tick shampoo. Before bathing him, make sure you brush out all the mats and tangles from his coat or the bathing will make them worse.

2. Your dog might have developed a chronic licking habit because he has a skin disorder.

Some common skin disorders that a dog may develop are mange or dermatitis. Mange is a skin disease in dogs that is caused by various types of mites. The dermatitis could be caused by an allergic reaction to fleas, dust mites, mold or a certain brand of dog food. If you suspect that your dog has a case of mange or dermatitis, your veterinarian will be able to diagnose what the disorder is and prescribe a course of treatment.

3. Your dog might have developed a persistent licking habit because he is under stress.

The stress may be a result of a new adoption, physical abuse, separation anxiety, or even a reaction to a new food.

If you think separation anxiety might be the cause of his stress, there are several methods for solving the problem. Try exposing your dog to being alone for very short periods of time. When your dog has adjusted to being alone for that duration of time, gradually increase your departure period. If you must be away from your dog for a long period of time, while you are away at work, try to find a friend or neighbor who could come over and take him for a walk a couple of times during the day.

Perhaps a new dog in the family is causing the stress? It is very common to experience a period of stress and adjustment when a new dog is brought into a household that has an established pet. One way to help make the transition a little easier is to give your older dog alot of attention and love. It will let him know that he’s still a vital part of the family. Just remember that it will take time for your dogs to adjust to one another and be one happy dog family!

Changing your dog’s diet can also cause stress. If you’re thinking of feeding your dog a new brand of dry dog food, do it gradually and over a period of four days or longer. On the first day that you change the food, feed your dog one quarter of the new food with three quarters of the old food. Add in another quarter of the new food after a couple of days or so. After another two days, add in another quarter of the new dog food. Finally, after another couple of days or so, you will be able to leave out the old dog food entirely!

If you cannot determine the cause of your dog’s stress, talk to your veterinarian. He’ll be able to refer you to a dog behaviorist who will be able to determine the cause of your dogs stress. If your dog has severe separation anxiety, an anti-anxiety medication might be considered to alleviate the anxiety. Drugs are not a complete solution, however, and should be used along with a treatment program.

4. Your dog might have developed an incessant licking habit because he has an injury that has resulted in an open wound.

A dog that has developed an injury that has resulted in an open wound will lick himself incessantly in an attempt to clean the wound and keep it free from bacteria. Dog saliva has been proven to kill some germs and when your dog licks an open wound, it will aid in keeping the wound infection free.

Veterinarian treatment may be required if your dog appears to be in pain, the wound contains a foreign material and is deep enough to require stitches, is bleeding excessively or becomes infected.

5. Your dog might have developed a relentless licking habit because he has developed the bad habit of doing so.

Some dogs develop the habit of licking their paws incessantly despite them being clean, uninjured and parasite-free!

Your dog may develop the habit of constantly licking himself because he has alot of nervous energy and no way to alleviate the stress. He also may have learned this behavior because he is bored and this is a way to entertain himself!

Give your dog lots of time to play and run and work off any excess energy. If your dog is well-exercised and happy, he won’t feel the need to relentlessly lick himself to relieve stress or boredom!

The information detailed above will help you discover and correct your dog’s habit of chronic licking. With careful observation and a little attention to proper grooming, training, along with regular veterinarian visits, you can ‘lick’ your dog’s incessant licking habit!

June 28, 2008: 10:09 pm: adminLiving With Travel

It has been more than three years since the bottom fell out of the destination and
tourism industry, but many are hopeful that prospects are looking up. However,
from a brand perspective, the fear is that the marketing of the Tourism industry will
fall victim to the same trap, constantly fighting to attract tourists without any long-
term solution as new and more enticing destinations enter into the category.

The way to overcome this seemingly never-ending struggle is for destinations to
build individual brands that are more about the tourist than about the destination.
Historically, that’s not been the case. Instead, the brands have been marketing
destinations themselves and have more often than not been about the type of
destination, exploring the benefits of visiting a tropical destination or one in the Far
East, etc.

In tropical destinations, for example, marketing dollars have been lavishly spent
enticing the potential visitor with brand visions of romance, white sandy beaches
and turquoise waters. So, if you bought into that as a tourist, you bought into the
idea of traveling to a tropical destination, but you haven’t really made a decision.
You’ve only picked your considered set of destinations.

How can you differentiate one destination from another? It’s not as if no other island
or resort has sky, water, white (or pink or black) sandy beaches and friendly natives.
Destinations are not creating brands to inspire true preference among the
considered set. They’re just motivating preference between considered sets and
creating preference for tropical destinations over, let’s say, adventure and wildlife
destinations, such as Alaska.

There’s proof of this lack of brand identity in the numbers. With a few exceptions,
market share mirrors share of voice. The one that spends the most money gets the
largest market share. But from a stealing share perspective, you don’t have to
outspend the competition to increase market share. You can develop a brand
positioned against your competition and aligned with customer values so that the
customers naturally covet your destination brand.

Now there’s a new problem: Cuba. The lifting of the U.S. travel embargo to Cuba is
currently being debated in Congress. Make no mistake about it, Cuba will quickly
jump to number one in tourism traffic when that happens at the expense of the rest
of the category. So few destinations have a brand and tourists will flock to Cuba
because, for a while at least, it will represent something like a brand. Cuba will
represent “forbidden fruit” and Cuban tourists will feel special, like they are setting
a trend by being among the first to visit the exotic locale.

A brand that is built to steal market share is not found in the beaches, coral reefs,
or local culture. Stealing share capabilities reside in the hearts of the customers of
the competition. Take Cuba, for example. The “forbidden fruit” and “one of the first
to visit” attractions have nothing to do with the amenities of the country itself.
Everyone who plans a visit to a place like Cuba will expect the same marketed
promises: exotic food, white sandy beaches, turquoise blue water and interesting
culture. They will go to Cuba because being a Cuban visitor says more about them
as a traveler than going to any other tropical destination. Brand is always about your
customer and not about you (the destination).

On too many occasions destinations claim all sorts of amenities they believe will be
important. Puerto Rico claims to be close and the Virgin Islands claim to be
“ours” (as in, part of the United States), but our research indicates that the consumer
does not care for those claims. Puerto Rico may be close, but it’s not that much
closer to us through the air than Jamaica. Does anyone actually think that tourists
are going to choose Puerto Rico because it saves them 15 minutes in the air?

Consider this: Hawaii is first in top-of-mind awareness among U.S. travelers, but it’s
not at the top in the number of U.S. visitors. If it had a brand that said something meaningful about who the tourist is when they visit Hawaii, they would not have to
increase their marketing budget to steal share.

Tropical destinations can rest easy knowing that their advertising does not have to
say, “Come here to swim. We have beaches, sun and alcohol.” Even though that’s
exactly what they are saying now, they should understand they are not telling their
target audiences anything new. Few other industries have category benefits that are
so well known. With tourists beginning to travel more and with the looming threat of
Cuba, it’s time for destinations to build brands around the tourists and start
stealing share.

With the current appreciation of real estate within the last few years, you can’t go anywhere without someone talking about their latest real estate deal. With the sour taste of the internet stock bubble still fresh in everyone’s mouth, one can’t help but worry about a similar real estate bubble bursting in the near future. Looking at the facts is the only way to gauge whether or not real estate in the Phoenix-Scottsdale-Mesa Metro area will see a sharp decline.

Real Estate Price to Income Ratio - This ratio is often used to imply an impending real estate bubble forming, although this is not correct. While income has not risen to keep pace with the price of real estate in Maricopa County, a better figure to take into account is the mortgage debt servicing cost to income ratio. This number allows us to look at whether people can afford their mortgages on their property, since most people carry debt on their real estate. For the Phoenix Metro area, that number is currently 21% for the Phoenix Metro area, compared to an average of 30% for the top 20 US metro areas. This makes property in the Phoenix metro area surprising attractive, combined with a 3 year appreciation of 69%.

The “Catch Up” Effect - Much of the current appreciation we are seeing in the Phoenix metro area can be attributed to the lackluster performance during the 80s and 90s. During that period, home prices were relatively flat, so the current rise in prices can be seen as a “catch up” effect.

Future Job Growth in the Phoenix Metro Area - A decline in home prices is rare, and the median home price in the US has not declined since the great depression on the 1930s. Local markets have seen declines when accompanied by sharp declines in the local job market. The 3 year job growth outlook for the Phoenix Metro area is a strong 4.8%, compared to the national average of 2.4%, making a strong argument that home prices will not fall.

Mortgage Climate for the Phoenix Metro Area - 18% of the mortgages in the Phoenix metro area are above 90% of the real estate’s value, making the foreclosure risk in the area minimal. While a rising interest rate would cool the recent growth we’ve seen in home values, it would only bring the area in line with the national average mortgage debt servicing cost to income ratio.

After looking at the numbers, it’s clear that Phoenix AZ real estate bubble concerns are overstated. Job growth for the area looks good and foreclosure risk is minimal. While past returns cannot guarantee future growth, the future looks very promising for real estate investment in the Phoenix metro area. A cooling in appreciation may occur if interest rates rise sharply, but this would be far from the bubble burst the stock market saw. But even with the current rise in mortgage rates, the Phoenix area is still seeing appreciation in real estate.

I have been running a small business for nearly ten years and have used various forms of marketing ideas to help promote my services and to attract new customers. In this article, I write about these marketing strategies which I hope will benefit the people who read it.

When I was twenty-three, I had what I believed was a good business idea. I was going to offer a speech coaching service as I had managed to overcome a speech impediment and believed that the techniques which had helped me could help other people as well.

It is all well and good having an idea but if no one knows about the service you are offering, it is basically worthless. I had no real business experience and was unsure on how to proceed. By reading a number of books on marketing for small businesses, I managed to find some potential routes which could help me to get started.

Direct marketing

This was one of the first areas I tried. I had a small leaflet produced which explained the speech coaching service that I was offering and then with the help of some friends and family, went around my local area delivering them. This was not as successful as I hoped it would be, however I am sure that this area of marketing could work well for other types of business.

Newspapers

I then decided to speculate to accumulate. I contacted a number of the local newspapers in my area and paid for an advertisment which would appear on a weekly basis. This advert would reach quite a large number of people and even though this was quite an expensive form of marketing, it did work for me in the early days.

Open days

I wanted to expand the area that I was going to offer my services. I decided to hold an open day or presentation in various parts of the country which would help to promote my business.

This was successful as newspapers were happy to report this open day free of charge, as it was a local event which would be of interest to their readers.

Yellow pages

I advertised in the yellow pages for a number of years but their prices just seemed to increase to an unrealistic level. More and more people now have access to the internet and I believe this is where they are more likely to search for the services they require. Yellow pages or as it is now called Yell, has become more expensive when in reality probably less people are using it.

Advertising in the yellow pages did prove successful for me for a number of years however, and is certainly an area of marketing which could work for other small businesses.

Websites

I paid a company to design and build me a website around seven years ago and this has by far been the best marketing investment I have made thus far. I have worked hard to promote this site and it is now doing well in the major search engines.

Radio and television marketing

This is an area of marketing which I have not tried as yet as it is very expensive. I have heard from other sources that advertising on the radio or television can be very beneficial for certain businesses, if they can afford the initial outlay.

I am sure there are many other ways of marketing a small business and I will seek them out in the future for my own business.

The above ideas are what I have learnt about and as you may have read, I have tried some of them myself with mixed success. Every business is obviously different and it is basically a form of trial and error to find which ones will work.

To the non-fan, NASCAR stands for “Non Athletic Sport Centered Around Rednecks”….it’s real meaning is “National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing”. To corporate America it stands for “Big Business”

NASCAR and their premier division “Nextel Cup” is the second most watched sport in America, only the NFL tops it for attendance and television audiences. On any given weekend during the season, more race fans pack race tracks to capacity, than any major sporting event… All-star Game, Superbowl, or PGA Golf Tournament. The website ‘NASCAR.com’ gets over ONE BILLION hits a year

The Nextel Cup features 26 weekly races, plus a 10 race playoff type schedule. It’s the only sport that has what’s called “It’s Superbowl” as the first race of the season. The Daytona 500 is viewed by over 30 million, over 180 thousand pack the grandstands and infield each year for that event.

This sport that many assume their fans to be white, male, and southern. Well, that assumption is just plain wrong. NASCAR’s fan base is made up by 40% woman, in fact, NASCAR has more women watching, than the NFL or Major League Baseball. The minority fan base increases each week, making up about 10% at this point. The average income of a NASCAR Nextel Cup fan is 83,000 a year.

You see corporate sponsor names everywhere, on the cars, uniforms, tracks, and merchandise. NASCAR fans are the most “Brand Loyal” in the world. These sponsor names cash in on that loyalty…Dale Earnhardt Jr. fans drink Budweiser, you won’t find a lot of Tony Stewart fans setting one foot inside a LOWE’s, because Tony is sponsored by “Home Depot”, Jeff Gordon fans paint with nothing but Dupont paint, etc. It cost 10 to 20 million per year for the top teams to be competitive and Corporate America is more than happy to cough up that kind of cash for what they get in return. It costs sponsor’s around a million and a half dollars a season just to have their company name on the trunk lid of a top Nextel Cup car.

The drivers are the stars and they offer everything from: good looking, ugly, fat, tall, thin, smart, dumb, intelligent, stupid, macho, wimpy, young and old. You can’t find another sport that offers the drama week in and week out that a NASCAR Nextel Cup race offers.

This is only a brief overview of America’s second most watched sport, there is a lot more to uncover in future articles related to NASCAR, but you can not deny, that NASCAR is the best
reality show there is.

Mark Kessler - 26 year broadcasting veteran has been heard on numerous radio stations reporting NASCAR and is the owner of three NASCAR websites. NASCAR Wrecks
offers the latest news in Nextel Cup, NASCAR Diecast covers the model car craze and Cheap NASCAR Nextel Cup tickets is a free resource for tickets at a race near you.

Hey…you’ve got your own life to live and your own agenda. You know the things you want to do just for you.

So what’s with all these people who are sick? I mean, they are not your problem are they? You did not invent life. You did not create the world or the Universe did you?

It is not your responsibility because some, someone, somewhere is sick or old is it? Let us not even consider people who are starving, destitute, down on their “luck”, mentally ill or who have just made poor choices in life. It’s not your problem…or is it?

You might be thinking to yourself that they are the ones who are “responsible” for their situation. You might be right. But you’re certainly are not compassionate are you?

Are these words trying to put guilt on your forehead like hot coals? These words are trying to let you see, not make you see, the anguish and needs of others.

You can ignore people who are sick or old or whatever else you don’t want to know about or deal with. It is OK. It is your choice. But with that choice remember that you might be sick one day. You will certainly be old one day and sooner than you ever dreamed possible.

Maybe one person who reads this will go visit someone who is all alone with his or her affliction. Maybe it is you who will show love, compassion and a caring spirit. Whether a person has aids or any other problem physically or mentally, maybe it will be you who gives your time to visit them. Maybe it is you…is it?

In a world that is growing with more and more vile hatred maybe it is you who will be the one who drops a “pebble into the pond” and starts an outward set of waves of love that will spread out across the world.

Maybe it is you…just maybe.

General Certifications and Focused Certifications

Cisco offers three levels of general certification representing increasing levels of expertise: Associate, Professional, and Expert (CCIE). Different tracks across these levels align with varying career needs. A variety of focused Cisco Qualified Specialist certifications are available as well to show knowledge in specific technologies, solutions or job roles.

CCNA

The CCNA certification (Cisco Certified Network Associate) indicates a foundation in and apprentice knowledge of networking. CCNA certified professionals can install, configure, and operate LAN, WAN, and dial access services for small networks (100 nodes or fewer), including but not limited to use of these protocols: IP, IGRP, Serial, Frame Relay, IP RIP, VLANs, RIP, Ethernet,
Access Lists.

CCNP

The CCNP certification (Cisco Certified Network Professional) indicates advanced or journeyman knowledge of networks. With a CCNP, a network professional can install, configure, and troubleshoot local and wide area networks for enterprise organizations with networks from 100 to more than 500 nodes. The content emphasizes topics such as security, converged networks, quality of service (QoS), virtual private networks (VPN) and broadband technologies.

CCSP

The CCSP certification (Cisco Certified Security Professional) indicates advanced knowledge of securing Cisco networks. With a CCSP, a network professional can secure and manage network infrastructures to protect productivity and reduce costs. The content emphasizes topics such as perimeter security, virtual private networks, intrusion protection as well as how to combine these technologies in a single, integrated network security solution.

CCIP

The CCIP (Cisco Certified Internetwork Professional) provides individuals working in service provider organizations with competencies in infrastructure IP networking solutions. CCIP professionals have detailed understanding of networking technologies in the service provider arena including IP routing, IP QoS, BGP, and MPLS.

CCIE R&S

CCIE certification in Routing and Switching indicates expert level knowledge of networking across various LAN and WAN interfaces, and a variety of routers and switches. Experts in R&S solve complex connectivity problems and apply technology solutions to increase bandwidth, improve response times, maximize performance, improve security, and support global applications. Candidates should be able to install, configure, and maintain LAN, WAN, and dial access services.

Becoming a CCIE requires passing a set of exams

There are no formal prerequisites for CCIE certification. Other professional certifications and/or specific training courses are not required. Instead, candidates are expected to have an in-depth understanding of the subtleties, intricacies and challenges of end-to-end networking. You are strongly encouraged to have 3-5 years of job experience before attempting certification. To obtain your CCIE, you must first pass a written qualification exam and then a corresponding hands-on lab exam.

CCIE Security

CCIE certification in Security indicates expert level knowledge of IP and IP routing as well as specific security protocols and components.

The CCIE Voice track, however, does not certify an understanding of the infrastructure over which VoIP solutions are implemented. This contrasts with the CCIE Service Provider-IP Telephony track which certifies an individual as a core IP expert with a high degree of VoIP literacy.

CCIE Storage

CCIE certification in Storage Networking indicates expert level knowledge of intelligent storage solutions over extended network infrastructure using multiple transport options such as Fibre Channel, iSCSI, FCIP and FICON. Storage Networking extensions allow companies to improve disaster recovery, optimize performance and take advantage of network services such as volume management, data replication, and enhanced integration with blade servers and storage appliances.

General Certifications: Three Levels of Certification

Associate. The first step in Cisco networking begins at the Associate level. Think of this as the apprentice or foundation level of networking certification.

Professional. This is the advanced or journeyman level of certification.

Expert. This is CCIE, the highest level of achievement for network professionals, certifying an individual as an expert or master.

General Certifications: Four Different Paths

Network Installation and Support. This path is for professionals who install and support Cisco technology-based networks in which LAN and WAN routers and switches reside.

Network Engineering and Design. This path is for professionals who design Cisco technology-based networks in which LAN and WAN routers and switches reside.

Service Provider. This path is aimed at professionals working with infrastructure or access solutions in a Cisco end-to-end environment primarily within the telecommunications arena.

Network Security. This path is directed toward network professionals who design and implement Cisco Secure networks.
