I decided to travel to the Dominicans with some girlfriends after a lot of deliberation. My split with John had left me a little low, and my plan to travel was the best thing I could have done. I was a little hesitant to begin with as I had gathered from a couple of reviews that the Dominican Republic was not a very safe place for women to travel, but everything seemed fine once we got to the Dominican Republic. The streets were not bad at all; they were pretty clean and the street vendors did not really run after us insisting we buy their wares.

We decided to try out a tour that gave us the flexibility of doing our own thing rather than being stuck with a schedule. We got this package at an online travel website and were quite pleased with it. The Iberostar Costa Dorada where we stayed had a beachside locale, and the sand and sea looked inviting from there. The hotel also had some fine restaurants and the choice of menus was vast. We went on a shopping spree in the mall at the hotel. Wanda went one step ahead and tried her luck at the casino in the hotel and lost quite a bit of money there.

Our trip to the Dominican Republic also included a visit to the city of Santa Domingo. The relaxed and laid-back atmosphere of the Zona Colonial totally bowled me over. In fact, for those planning a trip to the region, I would suggest a round of the shops where some of the most beautiful amber jewelry is available. I love some adventure while on vacation, and the Dominican Outback Safari and the Scubadoo Underwater adventure ensured that I got my doze of adventure. When all the travel got a little hectic, I just lounged on the beach and got a fantastic tan.

Well, did you know that Meringue is very popular in the Dominican Republic? I didn’t for sure, but it didn’t really matter as I was busy dancing most evenings. We spent time at the La Guacara Taina disco where the music was rocking and the guys there were quite smart. My trip to the Dominican Republic was something I really needed. I’m glad I decided to travel.
