Ofcom Confirms Drop in Broadband Complaints
Communications watchdog Ofcom has confirmed that the number of complaints received for telephone and broadband snags has fallen in the last year. According to Ofcom, this fall in figures may have been caused due to the influence of the global economic crisis like a sluggish market for housing. They clarified that problems occur occasionally when broadband and telephone connections are migrated during the process of moving home.
The number of grievances on broadband migrations and MACs this year has fallen to almost half of what it was last year. The most frequent complaints received are problems with broadband migration, false promises made while selling fixed lines and mobiles, silent calls and escalated charges.
The complaints data was published along with the latest Consumer Bulletin, which points out the changes in Ofcom’s consumer work in the last few months. To assist people in handling problems arising in broadband and telephone services, a number of help guides have been published by Ofcom. This effort is towards its responsibilities of controlling instance of malpractices and dealing with other problem areas in the telecommunications sector. For broadband advice, a dedicated site like Broadband Genie is a good place to look, the broadband blog and articles offer a good insight into the various ISP’s practices.
After pointing out that broadband switching was still a big problem for a lot of people, readers were also requested to access the Migration Authorisation Codes advice guide published last year. It is accessible for browsing online at ofcom.org.uk/media/pipmac.
