Meeting famous people is often a surreal experience for both parties. In 1956 when Elvis Presley arrived in Hollywood he and his entourage stayed at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. One day he got into the elevator. “What floor?” asked the operator. “Tenth please.” The operator looked at him with disdain. “You can’t go up to the tenth floor. Elvis is staying there. No one is allowed there.” A bemused Presley said,” I know. I’m Elvis.” The hotel employee stared at him for a long moment then said,” Well I don’t care who you are, you can’t go to the tenth floor.” The amiable singer agreed to go to the eleventh floor and walked down the stairs to the tenth.

Some entertainment organizations are so vast that employees don’t always recognize the people at the top. Walt Disney who often was harsh with those who worked for him, had no patience for anyone at Disneyland who was rude to the customers or as he put it, the guests. One time when an unfriendly security guard prevented he and his wife Lillian from getting on a ride, Walt fired him reasoning the man would be unpleasant with others. But if someone was doing their job they had nothing to fear from the boss. Once, when Walt was on hand for a demonstration of a new ride a young girl working there chided him for lighting up a cigarette, it wasn’t allowed. Disney, who eventually died of lung cancer, asked, “Whose idea was that?” “Walt Disney’s.” Walt stubbed out the cigarette. “That’s good enough for me.”

Sometimes the famous have a difficult time not being the center of attention. Once at a party at Louis B. Mayer’s house, the mogul was expressing his admiration for a female,” The red hair, the legs, I have never seen such beauty. She walks so regally like a queen”. Greer Garson the new queen of the MGM lot was standing nearby. She walked up to Mayer’s circle and said,” Why thank you Mr. Mayer.” It turned out LB was talking about his new horse.

It’s hard sometimes for stars to remember that not everyone cares about who they are or what they are doing. One time Laurel and Hardy were filming a strange scene in Venice Beach that required the boys to run down a narrow alleyway with their wives chasing them. The women would shoot at them causing innocent men to run out of their nearby apartment buildings in their undergarments and run away, with Stan and Ollie doing double takes. Before shooting the scene Laurel gathered the extras around,” Listen fellas, it’s costing us a fortune to rent out these apartments so I want to get it right the first time. Now when you hear the shots and run out into the alley, don’t linger. We only want you in the scene for about ten seconds.” After the director shouted “ACTION!” the boys ran down the alley, their wives fired their guns, the men in their undergarments ran out and disappeared quickly following Stan’s instructions to the letter. All except one guy who was about thirty seconds late, ran the wrong way, and bumped into Laurel, ruining his close-up.”You bloody fool. You ruined the shot!” shouted Laurel. “I’m not in the movie,” replied the runner.”

Sometimes legends don’t recognize each other. After twenty years in Hollywood Alfred Hitchcock finally became super rich after producing the low budget Psycho (1960). His agent Lew Wasserman convinced him to trade the movie rights for shares of stock in Universal, making the director the third biggest owner of the studio. From then on Hitchcock loved picking up the Wall Street Journal to see if he was wealthier. While directing his last film Family Plot (1975) Hitchcock would arrive at Universal early, sit in his chair and joyfully read about Jaws (1975) which was adding millions to his stock’s value. One day his morning routine was upset by an uninvited young man hovering around the movie set. Hitchcock, who seemed to have eyes in the back of his head called a crew member to have the intruder removed. It turned out to be Jaws Director Steven Spielberg who wanted to meet his idol.

Just because you’re recognized once doesn’t mean you will continue to be. After losing his driving privileges because of drunkenness Sean Penn was forced to ride the city bus. One day another passenger came up to him. “Hey you look like Sean Penn. But I know he wouldn’t be riding a bus.” Penn replied,” How do you know? Do you know Sean Penn?” “Yeah I worked on a film he starred in.” “Oh yeah? Well, what do you think of him?”. “Oh God, he was a total $%#%!”

After a hand is completed in online poker you’ll never find me
showing my cards, win or lose, to the rest of the table. I
always muck. In fact my settings are pre-selected to “always
muck”. You pay to see my cards, and if I’ve lost a hand online
there can be no reason to show my beaten hand. But now I ask
myself if this is the best strategy? Because there are times in
poker when it pays to show. That’s certainly true in live-game
poker, but what about the online variety, which is a very
different animal? Let’s look at this in more detail, especially
as it pertains to online poker.

There are three very good reasons to show your hand when you
have won a pot. The first is to create confusion in the minds of
your foes. The second is to provide disingenuous information.
The third reason is to get under everyone’s skin, and hopefully
push some poor rube over the edge and on tilt. An example is
when you win a hand with a stone bluff. You advertise those
rags. Players are wondering how you could stay in with such
slop, never mind bet, raise, or re-raise. Players might wonder
out loud, and even get slightly miffed. All the better.

There are times when you want to show only one of your hole
cards, something you cannot do on any of the online poker rooms,
at least not to my knowledge (as yet - note to poker software
developers: add that functionality, namely “show one hole card
only”. It could be to online poker what the double-click was to
computers, and if there are any royalties you know where to find
me.) So this is a tactic of misinformation that only works in a
live-game, and it can work very well.

Showing your cards can also be a forward-thinking strategy at
your local card room in that it helps to create a table persona
for you. Players now think you play very loose based on that
bluff, and next time you come out firing it will be tough for
them to put you on any hand. This is advisable if you’re about
to spend a long session facing a mostly unchanging table.

Now for the cons of showing your cards online. First of all the
value of a table persona is diminished in online poker because
of the incredibly high rate of player turnover. You’re
advertising for people who won’t be there in five minutes time,
let alone five hours time, and who probably are not paying
attention in any case. The fact is that in a number of online
games the only players who will notice your hand are those still
in the pot. The others have run to the kitchen before the cards
are in the air for the next hand. Showing your cards online
frequently looks like inexperience and nothing more.

I think a good player gains a lot by seeing other player’s cards
at the conclusion of a hand, and my advice to rookies or even
intermediate online players is to never show unless you are
compelled. The good players already have an edge over you - why
give them an even bigger advantage? There is no greater sign of
weakness then when a beaten player still feels the urge to show
the table his second-best hand. Your K9 outkicked by a KA? Don’t
show me that in the misguided hope that I’ll feel sympathy for
your plight. All I’ll feel is delight that you handed me a
glaring weakness in your game, and the next time you play with a
weak kicker like that pathetic 9 I’ll be right there to pick up
the pieces.

David Blaine and David Copperfield’s popularity have inspired a
lot of people to learn magic. And with that, there are also a
number of stores that sell magic paraphernalia for those who
would like to learn the art of magic. Below are some of the
popular equipment used for magic:

Visible Sawing - the participant lays flat on a bench or table.
Then, the magician places a wooden stock over the participants
mid-section. The saw is turned on and is used to cut the
individual in half. After the saw has been turned off and the
stock is removed, the participant stands in front of the
audience unharmed.

Victory Cubes - is a new stage inclusion that can be used to
make tricks more well-executed. Perfect for blocking those
angles that might reveal the trick’s secret, or as a prop
container. These instantly make a magic show show bigger and
more valuable.

Magic Rose - the magician is holding a full sized white rose and
sprinkles it with glitter dust. Then he approaches one of the
female specatators and gives it to her. Suddenly, the white rose
turns to red.

Vanishing milk pitcher - it looks like an ordinary pitcher. The
magician present the pitcher to the audience to show that it
does not have any holes. He places liquid (usually milk because
it is more visible than water) on the pitcher and covers it with
silk cloth. A few magics later and the liquid disappears from
the pitcher. The magician even turns it upside down to prove
that there is no liquid on the pitcher.

Giant Deck of Cards- there’s a deck of cards available which
falls perfectly in between the standard poker-size cards and the
typical jumbo decks. The Anglo Giant cards measure 3.5″ by 5″
and their large indices make it easy for audiences to see the
cards even from a distance.

Magnetic finger Tips - is used to perform routines with Coins,
Silverware, Cling Rings other metallic objects. It can also be
used in a trick to move objects.

Wand - it is a slim stick used by magicians to execute some
magic tricks.

Collapsible top hat - a black satin lined hat that folds flat
when tapped by a wand and springs back to normal when touched
again.

Chinese coins - can be used for enthralling type tricks and
other magic coin techniques.

Coin bender - a specially made tool for magicians that bends
coins during an act.

Feather Flower - this item can be compressed into a thin bundle
than can fit on either your coat sleeve or into your hat. Then,
they pop open when reached.

Threads - This is almost invisible to the naked eye. It allows
you to perform tricks that make objects float.

Fire Wallet - this wallet fires up when opened.
