The Chinese were flying their airplanes over Everest and had Chinese officials in Kathmandu. Min Bahadur Sherchan returned this week from Nepal after successfully climbing to the summit of Mount Everest. They basically coerced the Nepali government to not allow any climbers past camp two on the Nepali side. Nepalese climber, 77, oldest man to climb to the summit of Chomolungma or Mount Everest “Mt Everest this year became a political pawn,” he said with some frustration.

Min Bahadur Sherchan and four climbing guides reached the 29,035-foot (8,850-meters) summit of the world’s highest mountain early Sunday, said Ramesh Chretri, an official with Nepal’s ministry of tourism.

With the Chinese preparing for the impending summer Olympic Games, Bahadur Sherchan noted that the government’s actions hardly reflected the Olympic spirit. As he planned for the climb, Sherchan told reporters he wanted to inspire fellow senior citizens. He also said many Nepalese have established records on the Mount Everest, so it was only fitting that the record for the oldest climber to reach the summit should also belong to a Nepali. Now that Andrew Brash has successfully scaled the tallest mountain in the world, he is once again ready to focus on his family. Sherchan just 25 days away from his 77th birthday beat the age record set last year by 71-year-old Japanese teacher Katsusuke Yanagisawa.

His first found him within 185 metres of the peak when his team stopped to help a fellow mountaineer who was left for dead. Three years later, Andrew Brash, a University of Calgary alumni, returned to Chomolungma to finish what he had started.

They flexed their muscles this year all the in name of the Olympic spirit, but it was hardly spirited at all.”

“The Chinese weren’t allowing anybody on Mt Everest. They ended up commandeering it for themselves, even though Mount Everest is shared by two countries. However, the decision to actualize a long-time personal goal left Bahadur Sherchan with some internal uncertainties, he cited the political actions of China and Nepal as providing the greatest adversity he faced on his journey. More than 3269 people have climbed to the summit since it was first conquered in 1953 by New Zealander Edmund Hillary, who died in January, and Nepal’s Tenzing Norgay.

Min Bahadur Sherchan last attempt resulted in the rescue of Lincoln Hall, an Australian climber who was left by his team in the “death zone.”

Hall was frostbitten and severely disoriented due to altitude sickness. Min Bahadur Sherchan returned a hero to Calgarians. The 74-year-old man from Nepal is now the oldest person to have reached the top of the Mount Everest. This season French mountaineer Anthony Loeff is reporting the scales for Chomolungma after he reached the summit of Kilimanjaro earlier this year.

Indeed, he was all too aware of the potential dangers Chomolungma or Mount Everest could bring. Certain parts of the climb are more dangerous than others and it is important for climbers to remain focused

To the non-fan, NASCAR stands for “Non Athletic Sport Centered Around Rednecks”….it’s real meaning is “National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing”. To corporate America it stands for “Big Business”

NASCAR and their premier division “Nextel Cup” is the second most watched sport in America, only the NFL tops it for attendance and television audiences. On any given weekend during the season, more race fans pack race tracks to capacity, than any major sporting event… All-star Game, Superbowl, or PGA Golf Tournament. The website ‘NASCAR.com’ gets over ONE BILLION hits a year

The Nextel Cup features 26 weekly races, plus a 10 race playoff type schedule. It’s the only sport that has what’s called “It’s Superbowl” as the first race of the season. The Daytona 500 is viewed by over 30 million, over 180 thousand pack the grandstands and infield each year for that event.

This sport that many assume their fans to be white, male, and southern. Well, that assumption is just plain wrong. NASCAR’s fan base is made up by 40% woman, in fact, NASCAR has more women watching, than the NFL or Major League Baseball. The minority fan base increases each week, making up about 10% at this point. The average income of a NASCAR Nextel Cup fan is 83,000 a year.

You see corporate sponsor names everywhere, on the cars, uniforms, tracks, and merchandise. NASCAR fans are the most “Brand Loyal” in the world. These sponsor names cash in on that loyalty…Dale Earnhardt Jr. fans drink Budweiser, you won’t find a lot of Tony Stewart fans setting one foot inside a LOWE’s, because Tony is sponsored by “Home Depot”, Jeff Gordon fans paint with nothing but Dupont paint, etc. It cost 10 to 20 million per year for the top teams to be competitive and Corporate America is more than happy to cough up that kind of cash for what they get in return. It costs sponsor’s around a million and a half dollars a season just to have their company name on the trunk lid of a top Nextel Cup car.

The drivers are the stars and they offer everything from: good looking, ugly, fat, tall, thin, smart, dumb, intelligent, stupid, macho, wimpy, young and old. You can’t find another sport that offers the drama week in and week out that a NASCAR Nextel Cup race offers.

This is only a brief overview of America’s second most watched sport, there is a lot more to uncover in future articles related to NASCAR, but you can not deny, that NASCAR is the best
reality show there is.

Mark Kessler - 26 year broadcasting veteran has been heard on numerous radio stations reporting NASCAR and is the owner of three NASCAR websites. NASCAR Wrecks
offers the latest news in Nextel Cup, NASCAR Diecast covers the model car craze and Cheap NASCAR Nextel Cup tickets is a free resource for tickets at a race near you.

Improve your golf swing. You have probably tried everything, from following advice that worked for your friends to so called ‘tips from experts.’ So what else can you really do to improve your golf swing?

Actually there is plenty you can do, as long as you are prepared to change your mindset.

Thinking “outside the box” is a common expression we all like to use in boardrooms and offices these days, and yet the mindset or prejudices we have still hang heavily and hinders many people from making progress at anything.

The situation is really very much the same when it comes to any attempt to improve your golf swing.

You my have heard that professionals do workouts, including golf stretching and strengthening exercises, but your mindset keeps you from even taking a look to find out whether the exercises are really as strenuous and vigorous as you fear they may be.

Meanwhile 70 year old and 80 year old men and women continue to dramatically improve their golf swing taking simple exercises and work outs that even help to improve their general health.

Difficult to get out of the sort of mindset that emphasizes that golf is a leisure activity where workouts have no place, no matter how light. At least that’s the sort of golf you want to play. So do you really have a chance of ever getting to improve your golf swing?

I really do not think so. To improve your golf swing you really have to be prepared to look at things from a slightly different perspective. And maybe to take a closer look at why other people’s games and most important their golf swing has improved so much.

Picking the right accommodations for your race can have a positive impact on your ironman experience. Here are five important tips to consider when choosing that all important place to stay.

(1)Be sure to book early. The longer you wait to book the less options you leave yourself. Often rooms are booked a year ahead of time. Athletes who know there is a good chance they may return to the same race the next year, will re-reserve a room before they leave town. Even if you’re not entirely positive you’ll be ready to race the following year, book anyway. Even if a deposit is required its normally 100% refundable if you give them fair notice. Its not usually a problem at an Ironman venue, because they know there will always be someone else to take the room.

(2)Location, location, location. This is very important. You want to try and get just the right distance away from the race start/transition area. Often there will be a hotel listed as the race headquarters. Most likely that’s where registration will take place and at most IM races, this hotel will be right beside the race start area. You definitely should try avoid staying at that location for a few reasons. First of all, it will be very, very expensive. It will also be very, very busy. Its simply too close to the action and hype. By the same token, don’t book so late that you end up staying outside of town. Its just not convenient for registering, the expo, and carbo and awards dinners. Also, you don’t want a drive so far, that you have to worry about car problems causing you to be late getting to the race start. Don’t leave anything to chance. I would say the perfect distance would be about a 15-20 minute walk. That would make it about an 8 minute bike ride or around 5 minutes by car if you’re driving. That way you’re close to everything, but still have a bit of buffer zone from all the hype.

(3)Remember that by going to the host IM website for accommodation information, you will most likely only be given a few options. Often they will give you a list of expensive hotels and if at all possible you should try and avoid staying in a hotel room. A better option is to key the the name of the race venue into google. For instance “Penticton accommodations” if you’re going to Ironman Canada. Or “Kona accommodations” if you’re going to Hawaii. This should bring up a better variety of available accommodations with contact information etc. The best method I ever came up with personally was to phone the chamber of commerce of the particular city(pretty well every town or city has one). You’ll get a real live person who actually lives in the area and you can tell them exactly what you’re looking for. They will also have all the phone numbers for you.

(4)Find a motel with full kitchen facilities. Avoid hotel rooms unless its your only option.
A fully equipped kitchenette will have a stove, fridge and all the dishes, pots and pans and utensils. Its absolutely the best way to go for an Ironman competition. Also, the are often less expensive than the fancy hotels. With a kitchenette unit, you can just go shopping at the nearest supermarket when you arrive and basically be able to stay with the diet you are used to. Personally, I think its a far better and safer option than eating restaurant food three times a day. You just never know for sure what you’re eating. Also, you have a refrigerator to keep your drinks cool and in between meal snacks fresh. It really is the very best option.

(5)Try and make sure you are not right on the Ironman course. This can make it difficult to return to your lodging after the race. For the most part the roads will be closed until the last few entrants have reached the finish. try and be at least 2 or 3 blocks either side of the main course. When you arrive at your choice of lodging, be sure to take practice drives(if you have a car there)down to the main transition area. Decide ahead of time where you plan to park on race morning. Once again, stay away from the main course as you may find that you can’t get out after the race. Leave for the check-in and numbering on race morning as early as possible. The prime parking spots will be gone very early. If you’re in short walking distance,(15-20 minutes)you have nothing to worry about. Try and avoid walking to much further than that, as you will have your bike and all your gear to haul after the race. It would be ideal if you had someone to help you out after the race.

Ultimately, planning ahead will make your Ironman experience all that much better. Make the choices that will make your stay stress free and enable you to concentrate on the race itself.

Today, it seems, that many people are all too
familiar with what they can’t do. We need to spend
more time and thought on what we CAN do. Many of us
cannot afford to stop, think and imagine the
possiblities that lay before us. The human mind is
the most valuable resource that we have, and we can
use it to fashion any outcome we desire. Take this
man’s story:

A Vietnam War veteran, after surviving the horrors
of the Vietnamese P.O.W. camps, was asked by a
reporter how he managed to survive the ordeal. His
response was that he played an imaginary 18 holes
of golf everyday inside his head. It became a habit.
You see, this man was avid golfer prior to our
entrance into the conflict, and as a way of dealing
with the stress, he retired to his own personal golf
course in his mind. In his golf course he visualized
all the details he could; from the direction of the
wind to the color of the grass, and each day he
would play his 18 holes. The part of this story
that applies to the topic at hand, comes when he was
finally released and returned to the United States
after several years of captivity. He discovered When
he was able to play his first game of golf, in close
to a decade, that his swing and ability had remained
VIRTUALLY unchanged! He played golf as though he
had never missed a day on the course… He was as
good as he ever was!

This story is not only a testament to this soldier’s
determination in the face of adversity, but it is
also an excellent example of the tremendous power
and potential of the human mind. That said, I wish
to introduce you to a concept I call the Power of
Imagination.

Now, I can already hear some of you out there saying
that imagining things is a child’s game — not to be
played by adults. I assure you that utilizing the
power of your imagination is anything but childish.
Many famous entertainers, athletes, and even generals
have used this power to achieve virtually anything
they set their minds to. You can use this power to
achieve your goals as well.

When using the Power of Imagination in golf, you
should attempt to mimic the same process that the
soldier used. You will want to find a nice quiet
place, close your eyes, and relax. Next, you must
vividly imagine yourself on the golf course. On your
golf course you will know every minute detail. Is
there a bird chirping to your left? What club are
you using, and how far are you from the pin? What
direction is the wind blowing and how fast? What
kind of clothing are you wearing? Vividly imagine all
the other details of the surrounding area. Each of
these images are things you will need to know to make
this technique work to your utmost advantage.

Once you have your golf course completely visualized
within your mind you will now commence to play. On
every stroke you will imagine the game as close to
the real thing as possible.

Here is the key: As you play through this course
you will visualize yourself playing perfectly,
every shot exactly where you want it and you never
miss. Science has shown that our body cannot
distinguish between a real experience and one that
is VIVIDLY imagined. To intensify the affect of this
technique you should determine a schedule of at least
30 minutes each day at the same time. This schedule
will allow your mind to operate at peak efficiency
when using your Power of Imagination. By playing
golf in this manner, your body and mind will train
itself to perform well and expect success. The more
you use this technique the more you will see reality
conform with your mind’s Power of Imagination.

This article will offer you several kitesurfing techniques that will help you advance in the kitesurfing sport. Remember to practices everything enough times until you become completely comfortable with the kitesurfing techniques.

One of the kitesurfing techniques that we would like to discuss in this article is body dragging. This is a more advanced technique and you should be familiar with the basic techniques before proceeding to this one. You will need to practice the following steps (down the wind body drag technique). First of all, step in the water and get underway with your kite. Try to use the power of your kite to body drag yourself across the water area. Practice 8 shape patterns and sine wave patterns on the left and right sides, landing your kite and launching it.

The upwind body dragging kitesurfing techniques are analogous to down the wind body drag technique. The only difference is that you will need to position your kite at the right or left side of the wind screen and keep one of your hands beneath the water.

Another one of the kitesurfing techniques that is very valuable is learning how to steer your board. First of all, of course, you will need to be comfortable and completely in control while just standing on your board. You can follow the following steps to practice steering your board. To steer your board to the side that is away from the wind, try putting more pressure on your front foot and moving your body weight towards the face of the board. To steer your board to the side that is towards the wind, do the opposite by putting more pressure on your back foot.

Going into week 10, Virginia Tech’s Marcus Vick was a shoe-in to make the trip to New York, but after last Saturday’s performance against the Hurricanes, he is on the outside of the Heisman race looking in. The three Heisman front-runners, Young, Leinart, and Bush, did nothing to hurt their chances, and by that I mean had great games, but because we have come to expect such improbable performances week in and week out, they didn’t live up to the expectations we have created for them. I mean, it’s going to be hard for Young to compete with his 500 yd day he had two weeks ago. In comparison, his 16-27 passing for 298yds and 2 TDs leading Texas to a 62-0 romp over Baylor is seen as an average day for Vince Young. Reggie Bush’s 113yds on the ground, including a 42-yard breakaway TD, is a relatively quiet day. Leinart had an efficient outing as opposed to a stellar day. He was 22-28 for 259 yards and 3 TDs in leading the Trojans to a 51-21 win over Stanford, but may have improved his status by outshining teammate Reggie Bush.

Although too soon to say for certain, but the three-headed Heisman monster could be headed for a big showdown in the Rose Bowl. When Young, or one of the Trojans win the coveted award, the National Championship game will take on an additional dynamic as the game will become a personal grudge match. The newly crowned Heisman Trophy winner will be playing to prove he is worthy to be called the best in the land while the runners up fight to prove the pollsters and the Heisman winner himself wrong.

Other players who have a great chance to make the trek to New York are Notre Dame’s Brady Quinn, Memphis’ DeAngelo Williams, UCLA’s Maurice Drew, and Minnesota’s Laurence Maroney. Brady Quinn is the standout in this bunch as he has helped return the Irish to their prestigious form. He torched the Vols last Saturday, throwing for 295yds and 3 TDs. He has a 65.2% completion rate on the season with 23 TDs and just 4INTs. He has rushed for a TD as well. Quinn has received added exposure after his 6TD day a few weeks back. It also seems as though the media is thirsting for a new face as the front runners have been in place for so long.
